Thailand has returned restrictions for tourists, but there is an important subtlety for Russians

Unlike a growing list of foreign governments, Thai health officials are not specifically targeting travelers from China with new border crossing rules due to the pandemic. On the contrary, they require proof from all travelers that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

This sudden reintroduction of the vaccination requirement has created huge uncertainty for thousands of foreign travelers who were not vaccinated or did so in 2020 but have already booked a trip to Thailand.

Thai civil aviation regulator said in a statement that passengers 18 years of age or older will be required to show evidence of having been vaccinated against COVID-19 or recovered within the last six months before being allowed to board an aircraft bound for the Kingdom.

Thai officials initially said that unvaccinated visitors would only be allowed to enter Thailand if they had a letter from their doctor giving a valid reason for not vaccinating.

These rules could potentially overturn countless travel plans and further damage to Thailand's already battered tourism industry. Airlines and tour operators quickly objected to the border measures, and at the very last minute, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand provided loophole for unvaccinated travelers.

According to the latest rule, airlines are still required to verify vaccination or exemption documents, but if travelers do not present these documents, they will still be allowed to travel in Thailand.

Upon arrival, unvaccinated or undocumented travelers will simply be forced to take a COVID-19 test.

These rules are in effect until at least the end of January, while officials monitor the spread of COVID-19 – especially in light of the fact that China is reopening to the world.

Well, for those who are vaccinated by the Russian “Sputnik” in all its variants, there is nothing to worry about. Even if they were vaccinated at the very beginning of the pandemic. Thais simply don't check the statute of limitations for vaccinations. And no one removes vaccination certificates from the State Services portal either.
