The most beautiful cities of Belarus: my TOP-9 | Anton Borodachev's blog

This article is written to help you with ideas for traveling in Belarus (and not at all to emphasize once again that I do not like Gomel). Yes, besides the park with the palace, there is nothing special to see there. But I already wrote about this in a separate article. Read if you like. And today's story is not about that.

At first I wanted to arrange the cities in ascending order (from 10th place to 1st), but then I decided that this is all subjective and there is very little difference between many of them. Here it is difficult to unequivocally say that Grodno is better than Vitebsk, or Brest is more interesting than Mogilev. Just to each his own (maybe someone even likes Gomel). Therefore, the places in the ranking are distributed randomly.

In addition to describing the cities themselves, I will also briefly tell you how to get there from Minsk. In general, we will make such a mini-guide for those who are planning trips around Belarus. Ready to start? Then LET'S GO!!!

Grodno

The city in which I lived for 6 whole years, and also a place where every second house has a sign “Historical and cultural value”. Recently, the Old Castle was put in order there, the largest shopping center (outside Minsk) was opened, and the city was also stuffed with many good restaurants and cafes. In general… Grodno is a great travel destination. The editors of the portal (that is, me and my dog Netta) sincerely recommend that you go on this trip. A detailed article about Grodno will be at the link below.

How to get from Minsk? By bus or train. Minibuses travel less and depart almost every hour. But trains are cheaper and more comfortable. You can view the schedule and buy a ticket on the website poezd.rw.by. And minibuses are available at different sites (for example, atlasbus.by or minsk-grodno.by).

The most beautiful cities of Belarus: my TOP-9 | Anton Borodachev's blogI advise you to start from this site. It is here that the best selection of apartments

In conclusion, I would like to recommend that you also read the article at the link below. If you decide to visit the west of Belarus — it will be very useful to you.

Pinsk

“Grodno on minimal wages”, and also the second (!) City of Belarus in terms of the number of surviving monuments of antiquity. There are palaces, churches, and a Jesuit collegium (built in 1631). There are many sights, but they are located very compactly, so you can get around all the most interesting in 3 hours. Another disadvantage is that getting to Pinsk is not so easy.

There are no morning trains. Many even come to the city late at night. Therefore, it is quite difficult to go to the city in the Round trip format. Minibuses save the situation a little. But most likely you will still have to go to Pinsk with an overnight stay. Eight hours of travel (4 there and 4 back) is an option for the most notorious travel masochists.

Where to look for tickets? A place in the minibus can be booked on the websites 7588.byand minsk-pinsk.by. And you can buy a train ticket at the ticket offices of railway stations or on the website poezd.rw.by.

Housing. If you are Scrooge McDuck at heart and always strive to save money in everything, pay attention to the local Sport Hotel (hotelsport.by). She's decent, but no frills. And from here you can quickly get to the city center by bus (there are literally a couple of stops). If you prefer comfort, then you can rent this apartment. There is a good repair, and the house itself is very new and close to the center.

Vitebsk

One of my favorite cities in Belarus. And here the logic is simple… The city, against which I look so impressive, cannot be bad by definition.

But seriously, Vitebsk always seemed to me to be some very photogenic city. Most of the churches and cathedrals here have been restored, but it was done very carefully, so walking among them is very pleasant. Below the link you can read my long article dedicated to Vitebsk (well… or at least flip through the photos). I think they will tell everything better than me.

How to get from Minsk? Here I definitely recommend the train. They are comfortable. They have a convenient schedule. And they cost less than a minibus. In general, a complete royal flush. The only advantage of minibuses is that there are more of them.

Housing. In Vitebsk, I advise you to pay attention to this apartment. She has excellent value for money. And if you are traveling alone and do not mind staying in a hostel, then take a closer look at the hostel X.O. He is the best in the city.

Shchuchin

A city whose inclusion on this list should show you that I can be unconventional. We bet, at the mention of him, the song of Elena Zheludok began to play in your head! To tell the truth, I also discovered this city for myself precisely thanks to the very hit “Schchuchynshchyna”. But even if you somehow missed it yourself, it's still worth considering a trip to this region.

The main attractions of Shchuchin are the Drutsky-Lyubetsky Palace, the Piarist Monastery and the St. Teresa Church. The old city is also somehow preserved here, but it is certainly not as big as in Grodno, Vitebsk or Pinsk.

However, this disadvantage is more than compensated by the abundance of interesting places in the suburbs of Shchuchin. It is for them that it is worth coming to these places.

Not far from the city are:

  • the stunning church of Peter and Paul in the village of Rozhanka (7 km from Shchuchin);
  • The Chetvertinsky Palace in the village of Zheludok (22 km);

  • a “fortress type” church in the village of Murovanka (20 km);
  • and the village of Starye Vasilishki with a beautiful church and a house -museum of the Polish rock musician Czesław Niemen, who was born and lived here for 17 years.

You will need a car to visit all these places. Therefore, I will not write anything about buses and minibuses here. But I can recommend one hotel. It is called “Comfort” and is located in a historic building right in the city center. Phone for reservations +375 1514 20-100. (Yes, everything is very archaic with renting rooms there).

Brest

But this tourist pop, although I personally love this city very much. I love it for the huge Brest Fortress, for the parties on Sovetskaya Street, and also for Belovezhskaya Pushcha, forged lanterns and a beautiful train station that looks like one of Stalin's skyscrapers. You can read my long article about the main sights of Brest at the link below.

And if you want to see this city with your own eyes, then go to the website poezd.rw.by< /strong>and buy the right tickets. There are a lot of trains from Minsk. Some of them reach Brest in 3 hours, some spend as many as 4 hours on the way. But in terms of logistics, the two cities are interconnected just fine. Therefore, minibuses do not make much sense here. I drove them to Brest only from Grodno.

Where to stay? I can recommend you this apartment. She is beautiful, like a young Mickey Rourke. Inexpensive, cozy, stylish and located near the center (10 minutes by bus). If you are too lazy to choose accommodation options yourself, you can book it.

Nesvizh

The most beautiful cities in Belarus: my TOP-9 | Anton's blog Borodachev

A city of castles, parks and ghost legends. The main attraction here is the huge Palace of the Radziwills, which has long become a hallmark of Belarus. As a rule, tourists come to Nesvizh for the sake of it. But even besides the castle, there is something to see here. This is the Old Town Hall, and the Far Church (which is the first Baroque church outside of Rome), and the former Benedictine monastery (now converted into a pedagogical college) .

I have a long article about how to get to Nesvizh from Minsk. Read it if you are thinking about such a trip.

As for housing, here I can recommend the Bialystok Hotel. Personally, I really liked him.

Braslav

“Our Zakopane”. A city that captivates not so much with its architecture as with its natural beauty. Braslav is a city of lakes, silence and coniferous air.

He has one minus – this is a catastrophically low quality of housing in the region. It is not only twice as bad as in the same Zakopane, but also twice as expensive. Two nights in a good hotel on the Braslav Lakes is the average salary of a teacher in Tolochin, Gantsevichi or Kletsk.

If it wasn't for the pandemic and closed borders, I wouldn't have gone there. But we have what we have.

I have a separate article about how to get to Braslav. I will not repeat myself. If you are interested, follow the link below.

Polotsk

The oldest city in Belarus with many churches, monasteries and the famous St. Sophia Cathedral, first built in the 11th century. To be honest, I haven't been here myself. But I simply had no right not to say a few words about this place.

Drive. Every day there are 3 trains from Minsk to Polotsk. Travel time is from 3.5 to 6.5 hours. Ticket prices are from 10 to 14 rubles. For about the same amount, you can get to Polotsk by minibus (tickets here cost 12 rubles). See the websites marshrutka-polotsk-minsk.by and polotsk-minsk.by for all the details.

Mogilev

The most beautiful cities in Belarus: my TOP-9 | Anton Borodachev's blog

There is an opinion that there is nothing to see in the east of the country. I partly agree with him too. But Mogilev itself at the same time seemed to me a rather pleasant city. A rainbow will not pour out of your eyes, but a trip here for a day or at least half a day would be quite a good decision.

I liked the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus, the brutal red brick drama theater, as well as breakfasts at Wine’s cafe and an underground passage with old photographs on the walls. You can read more about my experiences here. In the meantime, I’ll briefly talk about travel options.

How to get to Mogilev? The most comfortable way is on the Business Class train. The fare is 14 rubles. Travel time is a little less than 3 hours.

If you want to save money, I recommend paying attention to the minibuses of the Two Capitals company. They often have promotions with tickets for 7 or 10 rubles. On the way, the minibus will try to destroy your kneecaps, but on the trip back and forth you can save about 8 rubles. Is it worth it – think for yourself. Polish trains versus Belarusian minibuses.

Accommodation in Mogilevyou can choose from two options below.

  • Apartment on the street Leninskaya
  • Apartment on Pushkinskaya

Both options are in the same price range, but located a little differently. In short, decide. And I wave my hand and go to bow. And so I've been banging on the keys all day. Subscribe to my Instagram. And it's time for me to say goodbye.

PS. The most beautiful city in Belarus is Minsk.
