Turkey solved the problems with obtaining Schengen visas to three EU countries

Turkish citizens have recently faced long waiting times and high rejection rates when applying for Schengen visas in EU countries. For this reason, the Turkish authorities decided to hold negotiations and meetings at a high enough level to finally resolve these issues positively.

According to Hürriyet Daily News, the problems associated with obtaining Schengen visas were largely resolved after Turkey's contacts with the authorities in Spain, France and Italy.

The waiting time for appointments was significantly reduced, and applications will be processed within a maximum of three weeks.

Unlike the countries mentioned above, problems with applying for a German visa still persist — those wishing to get a German Schengen will still have to wait a long time.

Earlier in November, Ozkan Mutlu, President of the Turkish-German Union of Sister Cities, asked the German representations in the country to help normalize the process of issuing Schengen visas.

Ozkan Mutlu sent an official letter to German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock. In the letter, Mutlu stressed the high bounce rate and long waiting times. He demanded that the number of employees at the consulates be increased so that applications can be processed more quickly.

In addition to Germany's proposal to solve problems with long waiting times, Mutlu also suggested that the authorities of the latter also start issuing long five-year visas.

Turkish citizens face long waiting times when applying for visas in other countries as well. Statistics show that the rejection rate for Turkish applicants has increased by ten percent since 2017. Turkish citizens submitted 271,977 Schengen visa applications in 2021, 6.4 percent of which were rejected.
